Can I paint the walls?
It is not recommended to paint the panels as the surface is not conducive to painting and is difficult to adhere to. You could consult with a painter to help you figure out how to paint on the walls. But it might require some sanding etc to get the paint to properly adhere to the walls, so it’s not something we can help with unfortunately.
Alternatively, you can use standard adhesive-backed wallpaper to add color or texture and to create a different, more customized look. To avoid seeing seams between panels, we recommend applying standard construction seaming tape over seams before the wallpaper is adhered to.
Are the panels waterproof?
The FRP panels are waterproof but are intended for mostly protected use. Indoors or under shelter.
When building walls and structures to resist water infiltration, we do recommend getting extra Finishing caps to close off the receiver holes at the top, to avoid rain being trapped inside the panels. For dividers 7' in height and up, finishing caps for the top are not included.
Additionally, we suggest sealing the seams between panel sections using water-resistant tape, or seamless vinyl clings. This prevents water penetration from the outside inwards.
Are the walls soundproof?
The panels themselves have a Noise Reduction Coefficient of about 0.5, which indicates about a 50% reduction in sound that passes through them. However, most of the sound transmission that occurs will be due to the gap between the panels and the ceiling.
Can I hang pictures on the walls?
Yes, the panels are stable enough to hang standard pictures and paintings and are ideal for creating gallery walls and art display walls. You can either drill into the panels to place mounting screws or can use wire to hang art using loops placed around lugs placed at the top of the wall. We do not recommend hanging art that projects far off the wall (such as animal busts) and which could create a weight imbalance.
How sturdy are the modular walls?
The panel walls are extremely stable when assembled in the proper configuration. To support the panels you can bracket them into existing structures or create panel support columns. Contact Us for a custom design!
I have carpeted floors, will it matter?
It should work as long as it's not on a high-piled carpeted floor.
Do you have a fire rating?
Yes, the panels have undergone rigorous fire testing and passed ASTM E-84 at Class C. This signifies that the panels have passed rigorous flame spread requirements as well as produce smoke less than the maximum permitted under Class C. You can download the report from our downloads page.
What is it made of?
The panels are made of Fiber fiber-reinforced plastic/Polymer sheets sitting on an ABS skeleton that is both fire and moist-resistant.
Where is this made?
The Modular Wall Kits are all-American made, and we ship out of Minneapolis MN.
Do the doors have locks on them?
The swing doors come with a standard lock and key.
The accordion doors don’t come with any locks, but customers frequently add their own hasp locks.
How are the panels cleaned?
The ABS Frame and FRP surfaces are fully waterproof and able to be cleaned with any number of household products. Typically we use a microfiber cloth and an ammonia based spray cleaner.
For SoundSorb clad panels, dust or dry debris can be removed with a vacuum and upholstery attachment. If spot cleaning is required lightly spray with a solution of warm water and mild soap and brush with a non-abrasive cloth or soft nylon brush.
For Polycarbonate panels accessories, the easiest and safest way to clean polycarbonate is with a mild soap, such as dish washing liquid, and a non-abrasive cloth or sponge. Work from the top down to minimize any drips that may run over the finished areas. Avoid using ammonia or alcohol-based products such as Windex or Lysol as they may etch the surface or coating of the panels.
What are the door options?
Aside from the standard accordion doors, you can opt for a swing door! Simply add a swing door to your cart and we will deduct the cost of the accordion door from your chosen kit on checkout!
*Take note that 8' doors require a delivery dock.
